Brighton meetup

[edit]

Hi Pete, I'm spamming everyone from the Portsmouth meetup last year. I'm hosting a meetup in Brighton on 3 February 2024 if you're interested. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:30, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Great, thanks for organising that @HJ Mitchell! I should be able to make it, will be nice to visit Brighton again. the wub "?!" 21:09, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could you sort a Geonotice please? It's been years since I did one and I wouldn't want to muck something up. Perhaps something like "join us for a chat and a walk in Brighton on 3 February"? It might be a little early but I don't want to leave it too late for people who have to make arrangements. Don't know if there's a written or unwritten convention on how far in advance we do Geonotices? Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:20, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HJ Mitchell Geonotice is up, usually the convention is not more than 3 weeks in advance but I just tacked this and Oxford onto the existing London notice so it should be fine. the wub "?!" 22:35, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:38, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please check on a Geonotice request

Hi The wub! I've posted a request for a Geonotice for our upcoming meetup, but it hasn't been activated yet. Notice

The file File:Debold main page headers.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused Wikipedia screenshot, future use unlikely

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --TheImaCow (talk) 21:17, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Wineries in Oklahoma indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:19, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

[edit]

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

Two more reward candidates

[edit]

Hi, it has been a while. I have two more reward candidates for the Level 2 Vital Articles GA reward: Ethics and Arithmetic. The process for Arithmetic was a bit of a challenge since the first two reviews were found to be invalid, with the reviewer of one of them even posting here to claim the reward. But I hope everything is in order this time. If so, could you donate the reward again to the "All Grants Fund" by GiveWell? Phlsph7 (talk) 10:15, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Phlsph7 Donation made! Thanks for letting me know, and congratulations again! I had seen the two cancelled reviews for Arithmetic, glad it was able to get a real review in the end.
That's the last of these rewards I have to give out for now, but you might be interested to see if you hadn't already that User:feminist has a similar reward for getting a level 3 or less VA to FA. the wub "?!" 20:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo, I seem to remember that some time you pointed out to me a bot or gadget which would archive the links in a page, to future-proof it. Having just spent ages sorting out Mikron Theatre Company after they redesigned their website, I'm going to try to remember to archive all links to websites other than books, newspapers etc. Could you remind me what that bot or gadget was? It would be good to be able to come to the end of initial creation of page and get all the links future-proofed at the click of a link. Thanks. And apologies if I've misremembered and it was someone else who knew about this! PamD 11:41, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Leeds Wikipedia meetup on Saturday 4th May

[edit]

Hello there! Interested in having a chat with fellow Wikipedians? There's a meetup in Leeds on Saturday 4th May 2024, at the Tiled Hall Café at Leeds Central Library.

Full details here.

You're receiving this one-off message as you're either a member of WikiProject Yorkshire, you've expressed an interest in a previous Leeds meetup years ago, or (for about 4 of you), we've met :)

I plan to organise more in future, so if you'd like to be notified next time, please say so over on the meetup page.

Please also invite any Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word! Hope to see you there.

Geonotice

[edit]

Hi Pete, could you create a Geonotice for an even in Brighton I'm hosting next Saturday please? I don't think we can narrow down geolocation in the UK reliably but if we can I probably only need the south of England. Text would be something like "Join us on 21 September for a Wiki Loves Monuments-themed photography event in Brighton". Obviously it's short notice, but it would be great if you could make it to the event yourself! Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:44, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:09, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
